Hello, everyone! Did any of you miss me? Ha. I've been putting off coming back from my hiatus for a few reasons, the biggest being that I'm just not sure what I want to blog about, anymore. Or, I suppose, how I want to use this blog? It's been playing on my mind, a lot, and I've also not felt overly enthusiastic about coming back to blog, either. But I know that I don't want to let my blog die. So, I'm just going to start and do my best.
But I figured, before I just jump right in, I would do a bit of a catch-up. I usually don't like to do reflective kinds of posts, as I spend a lot of time in my head thinking about either the past, or the future, and very little time in the present moment (which is something I'm trying to do more of, but I shan't go into that). However, I still thought it would be nice to fill in the gaps, you know?
So, what have I been doing on my hiatus? Well, the biggest achievement was submitting my thesis! It was such a weight off (not that I don't have other things to worry about - I worry about everything, really - but it felt so good). I'm not sure if I ever really explicitly said what it was about but, in case anyone was wondering, I looked at girlhood in contemporary art photography and cinema. I specificaly looked at work that was centred around the themes of fairy tales and nostalgia. There was obviously more to it than that, but as a summary, it's pretty indicative of the theme of my thesis.
That happened a week before Christmas so I spent the week between tidying the house and watching TV & playing Animal Crossing. Christmas was OK and I got some nice things and ate a lot of food, as usual.
Oh, and a Savers opened up near me! I feel like I've mentioned this, before, but oh well! This is either the best, or the worst, thing that could have happened. I've spent so much time and money there, already. On things like...
Lots of dresses...
and lots of books. Also, lots of dolls, of course.
And then it was 2014! How on earth did that happen, though? I spent New Year's Eve with a friend, in her flat, chatting (a lot), playing ukulele and eating pizza. We wouldn't have known the New Year had happened if it weren't for the fact she lives right near one of the fireworks displays at the beach.
That's more or less what I've been doing in my blog hiatus. But there is one last thing I would like to say...
Last year I probably bought more
new new clothes than I had in previous years and, this year, I'm trying to not buy any at all (new new, that is, I'm still buying secondhand). I'd had this on my mind for a while and then Clem Bastow started up her project,
Twenty Seventy, and it kind of spurred me to concrete that resolution, as it were. If you haven't heard of the project, definitely go take a look. I have a soft spot for the '70s and I love Clem's writing so I'm enjoying it a lot, already.
I'm not going the whole hog in terms of only buying secondhand for everything, as I've found I don't react well to all-at-once commitments or changes, but I figured I'd start with clothes because I've felt a little less creative in my outfits this past year. I think restricting myself to secondhand, will hopefully spark that creativity again. So, I think I shall be spending quite a bit more time at Savers!
Whew, this post was wordy. I'm still thinking on how I want to use my blog, what I want to share and all that, so I'm not entirely sure what changes there will be here, if there are any. But I want to keep blogging (and to hopefully resurrect my movie blog, too) and also be better at reading other blogs. Let's see how I go!
