Birthday!

Gosh, it's been a long time, hasn't it? I've been (slowly) working on a post to talk about a couple of things that have been happening with me, but I keep putting it off as it's a bit personal and I'm not really one for sharing that sort of thing. I'll keep chipping away at it and see how I go. One thing that happened, though, is that I turned 29! So, I shall share a little of my birthday experience (OK, my presents, mostly as I totally forgot to take photos of anything else) as seen via my Instagram snaps. Above is the outfit I wore out for my birthday lunch. Below are some of my presents from, in order: my mum; my best friend and her husband; my sister and her partner and last, but definitely not least, the very lovely Jane, who has her own super cute blog. (For anyone wondering the Sandy/Rizzo nightie is from Peter Alexander and the X-Files socks are from Foot Cardigan).

23rd Birthday - Part the Second

Thank-you ever so much to everyone who left me birthday wishes on my last post! On Thursday night my friends, Jacoba and Stef, and myself went to La Bohème bar to see A Wink and a Smile Burlesque Seduction Society, again.

Photos of the performance were not allowed but I got a couple of shots of me with my pals!

It was certainly a lovely night out filled with charming ladies, a magician (I do love magic tricks, I must say) and more cupcakes (Jacoba's birthday gift to me). La Bohème has such a great atmosphere, too - it's certainly shaping up to be one of my favourite places in Adelaide and I hope to spend a lot more time there in the future. They seem to have a nice selection of cocktails for those interested in such things but, as I don't drink, I can't say whether or not they are recommendable!

I've had this dress for quite some time and was despairing that I couldn't wear it because I hadn't shoes to go with it! Then I had an epiphany, you may call it, and pulled these red shoes out from under my bed, realising that they would be a lovely contrast to the navy blue of the dress. I was over the moon because this is one of my all-time favourite vintage finds. I barely ever come across vintage wiggle dresses let alone ones such as this!

23rd Birthday - Part the First

Yesterday was my twenty-third birthday! It also marked the anniversary of a rather more tragic event but I shan't dwell on that, sad as it may be. I decided to take the day off so as to properly enjoy the birthday experience. The first order of the day was presents from mum.



Mum made the dress on the left (I can't wait to wear it) from a retro pattern from Simplicity, I think, the shoes were returned because they showed off too much of my toes and I find that a little bit obscene (I am strange), and then there's the other stuff. The four photos on the end are from a writing set but, as there's 5 of each print, I'm going to frame one of each for my wall. Hurrah!

After that, we headed on out. My outfit -


I had to wear a scarf so as to hide my curlers from view, but it does look a little like I just have a very odd-shaped head.

The first order of the day was to pick up a lay-by of mine from Red Ruby Vintage (pictured in last montage) - Gale couldn't believe I had curlers in my hair! She found it very amusing, indeed.

We had a very healthy lunch at the Cupcake Cafe - I had nachos, a chocolate milkshake and a white chocolate and raspberry cupcake. Yum! The decor is also quite delightful and there were lots of yummy American treats on offer!



We also stopped by an op-shop and I picked up some 1960s/70s knitting patterns and a nightgown but, alas, the pickings there were rather slim. And when we got home I found that the stockings I had ordered from stockingshq.com had arrived! Even more presents.



From left to right: 4 packs of stockings (the cheapest ones stockingshq.com have, because I tear holes in everything and am also a poor student); 1950s tennis dress from Red Ruby Vintage which I shall be wearing in lieu of a playsuit about the house, come summer; nightgown; knitting patterns with amusing covers.

That pretty much sums up the 'first part' of my birthday - the second and third installments shall be coming soon!
