No case of mean reds in this dress!

Hello, all! Another busy week for yours truly, unfortunately. I spent all day Sunday hunched over my computer writing an assignment and really ought to be doing the same today (I also spent a good deal of time procrastinating. Oh dear.) I've just got a few pictures to share from what I wore Saturday night (to the Kustom Kulture Weekender). (I think I need to make a list of potential blog titles...I just sat here for about twenty minutes trying to think of that 'gem'.)

This gorgeous dress is from the wonderful Peta Pledger (who I met all too briefly on my recent trip to Melbourne). Isn't it just too lovely? It also comes with that fantastic belt - as Feargal Sharkey said of a good heart, a good red belt is hard to find! In my experience, anyway. 

It's not only a beautiful dress (and versatile, too - I bet it's great for picnics) but I love being able to support Australian products!

I quite often forget to show off other parts of my outfits, like handbags. Here's one that I've been using a lot lately because it fits so much into it! I bought it for 2$ at Clearit on Brunswick Street.

Even two petticoats weren't enough for me - I need bigger, froofier ones, for sure! One day I shall have them...

Then I went to a park and took some silly photos with my friend, Kate...

But this is how I really feel about being out-of-doors...not a 'nature' girl at all! (And, of course, I use the word nature in the loosest sense possible as this was taken in a man-made park just off a main road...Ha!)

This is closer to a representation of the 'real' me than most other photos, I think.

Edit I forgot to add that the bow in my hair is from Hopeless Lingerie and the earrings I'm wearing are from Femmes de Fleurs. Oops! But hurrah for more Australian made.

Buttons & Bows

What-ho, blogland!

I got back from Melbourne on Sunday but have been busy with one thing or another, since then, and haven't had the time to blog. I didn't take many photos on my trip (but you can see a few in this set, including this very lovely shot of Marianne) and the photos I did take aren't exactly holiday snapshots. I will say that I had an amazing time and have to admit I was a wee bit sad to be heading home on Sunday, despite being quite exhausted.

Anyway, I bought this lovely dress from Simplicity Bliss a little while ago, now, and I've been longing for the weather to cool down so I could bring it out and wear it. I had originally thought it would look cute with black stockings and my black oxfords with a little heel but, after quite a lot of walking in Melbourne, I thought I'd best stick with my flat, comfy, reliable saddle shoes. 

I don't usually like to edit my photos this much but I've been playing around in Photoshop (also known as procrastinating) and I just rather like changing the colours, etc.

I'm also looking for a little black bonnet-esque hat to go with it but the beret will do, for now. But if you can think of anything you think I might like, do let me know!

One of the things I love about this dress is the button details - not just at the neck where there is also a darling bow but these three buttons on either side of the skirt (pictured right). Aren't they just adorable? Speaking of buttons, there is a whole row on the inside of the neck but I can't figure out why - perhaps there was an extra collar or a hood attached originally? Can any vintage fashion experts help me out on this one? I just can't imagine there would be buttons there for no reason at all.

And, for good measure, a couple of shots of what I wore around Melbourne (last time I lamented my lack of variety in what I took, this time I took more and only wore two or three different outfits!):

I wore my Miss Hussy pants more than anything else and I'm glad I did - I ran into Peta Pledger (another lovely, talented Australian designer) who noticed my pants first and recognised me by them!

P.S. I've been wanting to use this title for a while now because it's one of my favourite songs; I think the image of buttons and bows somehow calls to mind a rather more frilly outfit but this has buttons and it has a bow, so it fits!

Quite Contrary

I'm still completely in love with this dress. I just can't get over what a great design it is...it was complimented quite a few times, too!

I probably shouldn’t point it out, in case no one has noticed, but I tend to be too lazy to photoshop distracting background things out (like the garden scissors in this shot)! Oops. As someone who studied photography for the better part of three years, I do notice these things…I just hate editing them out. Ha!

And a couple of shots of my absolutely gorgeous friends, with whom I had a fab time on Saturday night. Abi, who you’ve seen before, is now a redhead and looks fantastic, as per usual.

Anyway, I’m off to Melbourne for the end of the week/weekend and when I get back, I have a feeling I'll be furiously trying to get some assignments out of the way, but hopefully it won't be too long before I'm back into a regular blogging routine.

Shimmer, Shimmer Like a Girl

Hello, all! A little outfit post of what I wore last Friday night...I’ve only worn this dress once before – when I first wore it, it was a bit loose. Now it only just fits me! Eep.

Outfit details: 50s/60s dress – Red Ruby Vintage; costume jewellery – Diva; stockings – Love Kylie; shoes – Payless.

I also used it for two possible shots for my exhibition work in my final year of my degree - the one with the black background didn't fit with the rest but the one with the blue background did.

My friend took this photo of me – while it’s getting close to being an unflattering angle it does show off just how sparkly the dress is!

I thought I’d leave you with this – I saw it on the way to meeting my friend and it put a smile on my face. (If you haven't seen the You Are Beautiful site, take a look). I hope it doesn’t get scrubbed off!

Daisy, Daisy, Give Me Your Answer True

Gosh, it's been an entire week since I've posted. Well, in that time a very lovely thing arrived in the post for me - my new Fleur dress from my wonderful sponsor, Heyday!

I'm completely in love with it and I've worn it twice already this week! When I first saw the new fabric choices for the Fleur dress on Fleur's blog, I was immediately taken with the simple black option with white daisy accents. I do love the two floral choices but I'm not generally one for wearing florals, so just a hint of flowers was right up my alley. And, as Fleur mentioned, it really is difficult to get original, plain black frocks!

Not only is it comfortable and easy to wear (and put on, I might add - I tend to get all tangled up in wraps but even I managed with this one) but it's a great length to boot.

I wore this all day, yesterday and it took me through lunch, a catch-up with a friend, a Modern Art lecture, a Fringe show and late night snacks at the Fringe Club and Garden of Unearthly Delights. And it will most certainly be getting a lot more outings, I can tell you!

Rounding Up Some Outfits

Just a brief post for a couple of reasons: 1. as a round up of some outfits from the past week or more; 2. so I don't go too long without blogging.

I've got a lot on at the moment - the Adelaide Fringe season is still in full swing, I've just started a Graduate Diploma of Art History and I've got so many things to organise and I feel like I've been neglecting my blog ever-so-slightly. I do mean to reply to comments, etc., but I've been neglecting that, too. So, my apologies and I promise once I settle into a new routine it should be business as usual.
