Etsy update!

I had a different post planned for today but then I updated my etsy store (finally). Huzzah! As these were all pieces from my own collection, I figured this post is a little of a memory lane (or flashback Friday) trip as well as saying 'hey, I updated my etsy store!'

A beautiful 1930s feedsack playsuit set with skirt. This was a very special purchase for me and I still think it's lovely, but it's time for it to have a new home!

A 1930s crepe rayon dress, which I purchased from a favourite local store that is no longer around.

Gosh, the pattern on this dress is gorgeous. I wore it to see the Buddy Holly musical as well as to my cousin's wedding. This one was also purchased from a local store, during a break when I was studying art.

I need more sheer blouses but this one doesn't fit anymore, unfortunately.

And another playsuit set! So cute. But also too small for me, now, and I'd rather it be worn than languish in my cupboard.

Well, I've finally done it - I've started listing clothes on etsy, again. Huzzah! I've actually just renewed the old listings I'd let expire, and there isn't a lot in the shop at the moment, but I have a lot of things I need to get measured, photographed and listed.

I need to find a better way to photograph my stock but I don't have the time to get a model (read: friend) as yet so I guess hanging them on the cupboard will have to do for now.

As most of the listings are from my own collection, very few will be above or below a size AU 10-12, unfortunately. But please do take a look. I shall post another update when I get some more actually new listings done.

Etsy update

Firstly, thank-you to everyone who participated in my survey - I closed it earlier today and I'll be going through the results and possibly posting a round up here but that all depends on whether I find it necessary or not. Either way, I appreciate everyone who took the time and apologies to those who no longer can (I felt I had all the feedback I needed).

Now, to the point of the post: an etsy update. As I mentioned in my first etsy post, I will probably be listing things quite slowly but I will definitely post an update here whenever I've got a few new listings done.

I had planned on making today the return of the regular movie feature I used to do, however I am posting with a little announcement, instead.

After literally years of saying I was going to sell off some unwanted vintage pieces on etsy, I've finally taken the plunge. There aren't a lot of things listed at present but I'm going through the pile slowly...as they are all pieces from my personal collection, there isn't a lot of variety in the way of sizing, unfortunately.

I'm neither completely sold on the banner I made, nor the name of the shop but it was what I used at the last vintage fair I went to and I thought it would do for now. At the moment I've only listed shipping options for Australia because I was feeling a bit lazy, but if anyone outside of Australia is interested in anything, send me a message on etsy and I'll add other shipping options! I will probably be adding other options (or just an 'everywhere else') quite soon, anyway.

Etsy got me again...

Being a bit Barbie crazy, lately, I've found that I haven't done much, if any, shopping of the human-sized clothes variety. However, the other night I made the fortuitous mistake of browsing etsy (after promising myself I wouldn't - oops) and seeing that one of my favourite stores was happily one of the many having a holiday sale.

I was on the verge of getting the dress pictured below but, as beautiful as it is, and despite the fact that it's not so easy to find something like this in my size, it just wasn't practical. That's always a terrible thing to realise and sometimes I will admit it doesn't stop me but this time, alas, it did. I rarely get to wear some of the other fancier dresses I have and, whilst I could wear this to do the shopping if that's what I truly wanted, I still have my own set of thoughts about what sort of thing I like to wear and feel comfortable wearing (not what I think one should wear) on different occasions. And I can't envision myself having the occasion to wear this in the near future, so I decided to get three other pieces that had been in my favourites from this shop, instead.

(...I'm still swooning over this dress, though. That colour! The bows on the back! Sigh.)

In all of my etsy browsing, I rarely see skirts that will fit me and that I actually like, so I thought getting this was a very good idea. Plus, it's such an interesting colour, don't you think? Of course the problem (for me, anyway) with getting separates is that I've such a small but eclectic collection and it gets tricky finding two pieces that actually suit each other! Then again, it also means I get to play dress-ups when this arrives to see what will go with it. Hurrah.

I have a lot of cardigans but very few pullover jumpers, so I felt this was a good purchase, especially as it's in my favourite 'neutral' colour: red.

And last, but not least, I got this beauty. It's so sweet and I love the colour and detailing, like the doubled buttons and doily-esque additions to the pockets and collar. I think this dress could be easily dressed up as well as worn in a more casual setting. To be honest, I've started looking for this in dresses more often, lately. 

If anyone hasn't checked out stutterinmama on etsy, I highly suggest taking a look, even if it's just to ogle. I've never been anything but impressed by the selection on offer and I just wish I could buy everything in my size! Did anyone else take advantage of the various sales (I actually had to google 'black Friday' so all of my American twitterers tweets make a lot more sense now) across etsy?

Red, more plaid and sweater clips.

In between writing up (yet more) assignments, I've been taking breaks to schedule some outfit posts. Hopefully I'll be able to start writing up some posts that are a bit more interesting sometime soon.

 

It's not often that I wear my hair down in its natural (i.e. uncurled) state but this was just one of those days I didn't want to do anything to it at all. Oh, and yes this is another plaid dress I've added to my collection! I wonder how many I have now?

Outfit details: cashmere cardigan - etsy; 1950s dress - etsy; sweater clip - etsy; belt - My Baby Jo; socks - Happy Socks; shoes - same ol' saddle shoes I always wear.

 

I've loved sweater clips for a while now but these are the first I've bought! They are, as many of my purchases, from etsy. I'll definitely be investing in more as I think they're a lovely touch to an outfit. From a few I've seen on their cards on etsy, I believe they were to keep the sweater from slipping off if you just wore it over your shoulders. But, they're obviously great as something purely decorative, too.

  

A rare smiley full length photo of me (mum took it); I like smiling I just don't like always doing it on cue - one of my pet peeves is when I'm sitting somewhere, thinking or maybe not, and someone comes along and tells me to smile! And I know I'm not alone in this as I've had discussions both online and off about it.

Green Plaid, Red Ribbon & Socks

Gosh, I've just realised it's been over a week since I've blogged! I've had too much on my plate with uni and other things to think about blogging and I'm not sure how soon it's going to let up. It makes me quite sad, actually, as blogging is one of my faovurite things to do but hopefully once the bulk of my assignments are out of the way I can spend a day writing up some posts to schedule to take me through to my break. 

Anyway, I'm sure that's all very dull for everyone else so, until I have the time to write up some scheduled posts, here are the last outfit photos I took nearly two weeks ago, now - I haven't even bothered setting my hair since - I've been hiding it under a scarf!

I bought this dress from etsy and I must say it's nothing short of perfect. Just the right shade of green, it's plaid, it has pockets and it buttons all the way down the front. And it was deadstock, too! (In fact, there's a sister dress, in brown plaid, in the shop at the moment.) I'd all but given up on the dress arriving as it took longer than usual - I hadn't realised that there'd been some holds ups with the mail but it did arrive, safe and sound, and it's gorgeous.

Well, dear readers, I think this may be all I have time to post for the time being but hopefully it won't be long until I have most of my assignments out of the way and I can start posting again regularly!

In other words...

Just another brief post to say a couple of things...first of all, has everyone seen my new layout? Isn't it amazing? It was done for me by the incredibly talented Kate Gabrielle who has her own blog (you can find a lot more links of where she's at on the internet there) and makes wonderful art, too. If you like her work, you can get her to do your layout via her etsy store.

Secondly, I've finally finished all of my assignments (for this semester, at least) so that means I should have more time to blog. Hurrah! If I can think of what to blog about, that is - I haven't been taking many outfit photos lately so hopefully I get back into that, at least.

2 Tone Dress

Anyone else remember what I wrote before blogger had its issues? Because I sure don't. Ah, yes. I recall vaguely - I mentioned how I felt this dress was, at least, a little different for me. I don't wear black and white often (not together, anyway) so that's different.

This graphic black and white checkerboard pattern always makes me think of 2 Tone Records, which is why I nicknamed this my 2 Tone Dress.

I wore it with these work weight vintage stockings and flat shoes as I was off to Uni but I have plans of dressing it up a bit - black stockings, my new platforms and a cropped black jacket and fancy hat.

In my veins hot music ran

Oh gosh, it seems like my blogging has dropped to once a week (if I'm lucky!) - there are quite a few reasons why but I don't feel like going into them, right now, so here are a couple of outfit shots, instead.

This is what I wore to see Cherry Poppin' Daddies on Monday night. I had a great time and danced, danced, danced and sung along when I could. We got a photo with Steve after the show and chatted with him and I spoke briefly to Dan on the way out - they were really friendly and I think it's great when bands have time to speak to their fans.

I really don't bring this adorable little cardigan out enough! But since taking it to Melbourne, I've been wearing it a bit more.

One of the things I love about these stockings (Voodoo Killer Legs 'Vintage' Stockings) is that they get the little wrinkles around the ankles you usually only get with fully-fashioned nylons. 

As you can (hopefully!*) see I've had a haircut. I rather miss my long hair but it was getting to the point where the curl would just drop whenever I set it so I decided a drastic chop, rather than a trim, was in question. I like my short hair but I also like it long. But it'll grow and I can play around with other sets in the meantime!

And this is what I wore to uni, last night. I didn't set my hair so I just tucked the ends under using my straightener.

Buttons & Bows

What-ho, blogland!

I got back from Melbourne on Sunday but have been busy with one thing or another, since then, and haven't had the time to blog. I didn't take many photos on my trip (but you can see a few in this set, including this very lovely shot of Marianne) and the photos I did take aren't exactly holiday snapshots. I will say that I had an amazing time and have to admit I was a wee bit sad to be heading home on Sunday, despite being quite exhausted.

Anyway, I bought this lovely dress from Simplicity Bliss a little while ago, now, and I've been longing for the weather to cool down so I could bring it out and wear it. I had originally thought it would look cute with black stockings and my black oxfords with a little heel but, after quite a lot of walking in Melbourne, I thought I'd best stick with my flat, comfy, reliable saddle shoes. 

I don't usually like to edit my photos this much but I've been playing around in Photoshop (also known as procrastinating) and I just rather like changing the colours, etc.

I'm also looking for a little black bonnet-esque hat to go with it but the beret will do, for now. But if you can think of anything you think I might like, do let me know!

One of the things I love about this dress is the button details - not just at the neck where there is also a darling bow but these three buttons on either side of the skirt (pictured right). Aren't they just adorable? Speaking of buttons, there is a whole row on the inside of the neck but I can't figure out why - perhaps there was an extra collar or a hood attached originally? Can any vintage fashion experts help me out on this one? I just can't imagine there would be buttons there for no reason at all.

And, for good measure, a couple of shots of what I wore around Melbourne (last time I lamented my lack of variety in what I took, this time I took more and only wore two or three different outfits!):

I wore my Miss Hussy pants more than anything else and I'm glad I did - I ran into Peta Pledger (another lovely, talented Australian designer) who noticed my pants first and recognised me by them!

P.S. I've been wanting to use this title for a while now because it's one of my favourite songs; I think the image of buttons and bows somehow calls to mind a rather more frilly outfit but this has buttons and it has a bow, so it fits!
