When I posted the knitting patterns the other day, The Vintage Baroness asked if I could share some of the '30s ones. Here are a few from "The Lux Book: Knitting for 1937" (I have only photographed - not scanned as my scanner has long since died - one actual pattern. If anyone is interested in making any of these, let me know and I can send you the patterns for them. It was just a bit too time consuming when I was doing it...)
I'm completely in love with this boucle sweater.
This little scarf is quite snazzy.
I can't help but reading all of the names of these in a silly voice. Especially 'Manly Comfort'.
Look at this hat!!! (Sorry for excessive use of exclamation marks, but I think this hat warrants it.) I've got the pattern for it here; this one is crocheted.
I have a feeling the Baroness might like these especially?
I don't often (personally) like the fuzzy look of angora (do like that it's often called 'fuzzy wuzzy' though) but I love the buttons on this. I do love a '50s angora bolero or shrug, though. Quite chic.
This stitch is so lovely.
And a couple of advertisements for good measure...
This one made me giggle.
As I mentioned, if anyone absolutely must make one of these, let me know and I can either upload or privately send you the instructions.
Love,
Andi B. Goode

I'm more of a 50s gal but I do love that sweater 3rd photo down, fab!
ReplyDeleteIt feels odd to be admiring knitting patterns as the weather heats up - but these are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe dolman sleeves on the 4th pic down are incredible x

thanks for these! That last ad was particularly hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThese are so darling! I really love all the accessories; the 30s really had it nailed in that department. ;) *sigh* So many ideas of future knitting project, so little time! lol.

What lovely photos! Thank you for sharing them! I keep thinking that I will someday have the time to learn how to knit well, but in reality... However, I and a friend have talked about trading skills and the boucle sweater was so pretty! If you have the time, I'd be so grateful for the instructions to it, and maybe to the scarf as well? It does say "beginners", after all =)
ReplyDeleteI can't ever think of angora and not think of Ed Wood and his movies. That's not a bad thing I guess, just funny :)
ReplyDeleteuhhhhhhhhhhm, how about you make them all for me - i can't knit. ;) xxx
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks like such a fun book! I really need to learn to knit. I'd love to make a big chunky knit cardigan!
ReplyDeleteOh that hat is HILARIOUS! I just love the batwing top though. It's amazing! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful, I'm knitting something else at the moment but as soon as I've done (that could be a long time!) I would to try and attempt the first cardi!
